Trainer David Payne believes Rock Me Baby has the fitness edge to defeat star filly Samantha Miss in Saturday's Group Two Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.

Payne's confidence for the 1200-metre race is growing by the day as the weather in Sydney gets worse, with a dead track predicted following 16mm of rain at Randwick since Tuesday.

"This is the toughest test of her career no doubt but she is so fit and some of these, including Samantha Miss, are just starting out," Payne said.

"I have no doubt that she will be one of the fittest horses in the race and that will count for plenty and she loves the wet too which is also in our favour."

Rock Me Baby is undefeated in three starts this campaign and comes into the race after rattling home to edge out Rio Osa by a neck at Rosehill over 1100 metres on January 31.

Two starts back she won on a slow six Rosehill track over 1400 metres in a fillies and mares race after scoring comfortably on a dead Kensington surface at Randwick in a rating 76 handicap.

Samantha Miss also thrives in the wet having registered four of her seven wins on rain-affected going including a comfortable victory on a heavy Randwick track in the Group Two Furious Stakes (1400m) in September.

Payne has called on the services of leading Queensland rider Brad Pengelly with stable jockey Jeff Lloyd injured.

"Brad has come down and done a good job for us in the past and I'm sure he will again Saturday," Payne said.

"There's no doubt the class horse is Samantha Miss but this is her vulnerable distance and my one really deserves a crack at this lot and she is ready for them."

Glyn Schofield scored the pick-up ride on Rock Me Baby last start after his brother-in-law and fellow South African Lloyd was injured when his mount stood on his foot before the opening race of the day.

Schofield has been booked to ride the Grahame Begg-trained Palacio De Cristal in the Light Fingers.

Samantha Miss is the TAB Sportsbet fixed odds $2.20 favourite ahead of the Joe Pride-trained Anatomica at $9.

Love And Kisses from the Chris Waller stable is at $10 while Rock Me Baby is at $11 with the Peter Snowden-trained Portillo.

Palacio De Cristal, a last-start spring winner in Melbourne, is at $13 along with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer.
