Miss Darcey's unlucky third in the Keith Nolan Classic has convinced trainer Anthony Cummings to let her try to pay her own way into the AJC Australian Oaks.

The filly runs in Saturday's Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick but will have to be at her best to warrant the payment of a late entry fee into the Group One Classic a week later.

"If she wins the Adrian Knox Stakes we will pay the late entry to put her in the Oaks," Cummings said.

"Her run at Kembla was exceptional. If she had got the same run through as (winner) Allez Wonder the result might have been different."

The filly was stopped in her tracks as she tried to make her run in the Keith Nolan (1600m) and finished 1-1/2 lengths from the winner.

Miss Darcey returned to Sydney to run at Kembla Grange after three starts in Melbourne earlier this year where her best result was a second to Red Flair at Caulfield.

Her record so far is 13 starts for two wins, one over 2100 metres, and three placings.

By Hussonet, Miss Darcey gets her stoutness from her dam Miss Bussell who finished third to County Tyrone in the 2002 Queensland Derby and was third to Viscount in the Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old.

Stablemate and Adrian Knox rival Nothin' Leica Cat was among the original nominations for the Oaks and Cummings said he hoped she would also make the field.

The filly is less experienced than Miss Darcey with two placings from just three starts.

Cummings, who won the Oaks in 1998 with On Air, has booked Corey Brown for Miss Darcey and Glyn Schofield for Nothin' Leica Cat.
