Veteran Irish trainer Kevin Prendergast is justifiably proud after notching up the 2000th win of his illustrious career.

Prendergast started training in 1963 and as he watched Tell The Wind come home to an easy victory in a fillies maiden on Friday, he was able to look back on some memorable moments.

Prendergast can count seven Irish Classics on his record with Pidgit getting the ball rolling in the 1972 1000 Guineas.

But it is the victory of Nebbiolo in the English 2000 Guineas in 1977 that stands out in his mind.

"I suppose if I had to pick one moment it would have to be when Nebbiolo won the Guineas," Prendergast said.

"He was up against The Minstrel who was supposed to be a wonder horse and of course he was trained just down the road (by Vincent O'Brien).

"That stands out. The Minstrel then went on to win the English and Irish Derbies.

"Oscar Schindler was also a favourite of mine. In my opinion he should have won the Arc the year he was third (1996)."

After the Arc, Oscar Schindler started favourite but finished out of the placings in the Melbourne Cup won by Saintly.

Tell The Wind will go down in the record books as the horse who brought up the milestone and Prendergast credited the victory to his stable jockey Declan McDonogh.

"She ran in the big sales race the time before but the ground was heavy and she hated it. Declan sensibly let her come home in her home time.

"It's a nice milestone to reach."
