Patrick Payne-trained stablemates Capecover and Kerdem have continued their new jumping careers in style with wins at Bendigo on Sunday.

The pair gave the former jockey his biggest day as a trainer in last year's Group Two Adelaide Cup (3200m) when they ran the quinella with Capecover victorious.

Capecover won the Bendigo Toyota Hurdle while Kerdem took out Sunday's feature, the $60,000 Mosstrooper Steeplechase (3600m) at his first attempt over the bigger fences.

Steven Pateman rode both horses and made a clean sweep of the three jumps events, steering the Robert Smerdon-trained Marked Danger to victory in the Maiden Hurdle.

"He was obviously going to be good," Pateman said of Capecover.

"He is an Adelaide Cup winner and he has got a new lease of life over jumps.

"Kerdem is a pleasure to ride. He's very careful and keeps out of trouble."

Capecover has earned almost $1 million while Kerdem is up over $520,000.

Payne, a multiple Group One winning jockey, had a successful stint riding over obstacles when weight ended his career on the flat.

He has now decided to stick to training and prepares a mixture of flat and jumps horses.

"Capecover is a beautiful old horse who lost his way on the flat," he said.

apecover did his early racing in New Zealand while Kerdem was imported from Europe by David Hayes and found his way to Payne after five starts for the Hall of Fame trainer.
