Palacio De Cristal has brought some joy to the Grahame Begg stable with her win at Randwick ahead of All Silent's tough assignment in the International Sprint in Hong Kong.

All Silent remains favourite with most Australian bookmakers despite drawing the outside barrier in the 14-horse field.

Begg has admitted it will be difficult from that alley but has entrusted Nick Hall to make the right moves.

At the same time All Silent began his rise to prominence in the spring of 2008, Palacio De Cristal also stamped herself as a horse of quality but has failed to live up to her promise.

Owner Gerry Harvey's representative Claire Bird said Friday's win was a confidence booster.

"When she was a three-year-old she won a good race in Melbourne and we thought she could win a stakes race," Bird said.

"She hasn't had a lot of luck in some of her races but we always knew she had ability."

Palacio De Cristal had a few things against her in the Hall Chadwick Handicap (1550m) but overcame the outside barrier and 58kg topweight to beat Apparitions by a length.

Nash Rawiller brought Palacio De Cristal ($3 fav) from the back of the field at the top of the straight and she sustained the run to the line.

Almost 5000 people embraced the twilight racing concept at Randwick, combining Christmas partying with an afternoon at the races.

In contrast to last year when rain spoiled the day, the seven race card was held in fine and warm conditions.

Rawiller's win was not enough to close the gap on Corey Brown in the premiership with the latter claiming a double on the day.

Brown guided Dandee Topwin in the Roman Artist Handicap (2500m) with the Graeme Rogerson-trained mare recording her fourth career win after overhauling the leaders in the straight.

Regal Cat made it a race-to-race double for Brown when he dented some reputations to beat a field which included the expensive Seventh Reason.

A $2 million yearling by Sadler's Wells out of Sunday Joy, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Seventh Reason is now a four-year-old who has had nine starts for one win and three placings.

Regal Cat is a seven-year-old trained by Gwenda Markwell and has had an injury interrupted career.

"He injured a tendon and had more than a year off," Markwell said.

"It's good to see him in the form he is and putting two wins together."

Brown goes into Saturday's Rosehill meeting on 31 wins for the season with Rawiller on 27 while reigning premier Hugh Bowman is in Hong Kong to ride Racing To Win in the International Mile.
