Trainer Danny O'Brien believes Set To Pounce has a good future and he will be aimed at the second tier three-year-old races over the spring following his win at Sandown.

The colt, sent out at $12, made it two wins from three starts in the Vite Cheval Hcp (1200m) and gave apprentice Brent Evans a winning double in the opening two events on the seven-race program.

O'Brien said he was surprised Set To Pounce was at such generous odds, paying $18.80 on Supertab, despite winning on a slow track at Bendigo at his second start last month and striking similar going on Wednesday.

"I kept looking at the tote screen and thought there was something wrong with him," O'Brien said.

"He's a nice horse, (he's had) three starts for two wins. He had a lovely run today and Brent rode him really well.

"He's rock-hard fit and handled the (slow 7) ground and has a good future.

"We've got no major plans for him, but if he can win a second tier race over the spring we'll be rapt."

Set To Pounce raced in the first three throughout and scored a comfortable length victory over Noble Romeo with St Kiara a half-length away third.

Evans combined with his master, Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent, to win the Winooka Hcp aboard Florina ($2.25 fav).

He has now partnered the five-year-old mare to wins at three of her past four starts, all on the Lakeside track over the 2100m trip.

Easton maintained his unbeaten record with a strong on-pace win in the Betfair Hcp (1500m) but Caulfield trainer Jim Mason says he won't be tempted to keep him going this spring.

The four-year-old made it three straight following wins in a Donald three-year-old maiden in July and Ballarat Class One last month and was a late pick up ride for Glen Boss at Sandown.

"He's an unruly type of horse," Mason said.

"His mother (Tinterelle) was nothing special but he's just been one of those horses that has come through and shown a bit of ability.

"I think he'll go out now. The paddock is the best place for him at this stage."

Backed in from $8.50 to start the $6.50 equal favourite, Easton found plenty under pressure to score by a long neck from Elegance Dragon with Musical Hit a half-length away third.
