Danny Nikolic's efforts to conserve Mosheen's energy for the Oaks seem to have been misplaced with indications the spelling paddock is the next stop for the filly.

Nikolic was given a dressing down and a $500 fine by stewards for easing up on Mosheen in Saturday's Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) after setting up a big break on the field.

Streama ran Mosheen to a long neck but Nikolic said he had things under control and was making sure Mosheen was not knocked around with the 2400 metres of the Oaks in mind.

But a day after Mosheen's third Group One of the autumn, trainer Robert Smerdon and owner Phil Sly say the time is right to pull the pin.

"Originally we weren't going to Oaks," Smerdon told Sky's Racing Retro.

"I've talked it over with Phil this morning and she will probably go to the paddock.

"We are thinking beyond this preparation and I'd rather go to the paddock with something in the tank.

"I'd like to think a Cox Plate preparation was warranted."

Mosheen has been taken out of markets for the Australian Oaks (2400m) on April 21 leaving New Zealand filly Silent Achiever, winner of the Derby in her homeland, as favourite.

But she could line up in Saturday's Australian Derby instead with trainer Roger James saying she would not contest both races.

Runner-up in last year's Golden Slipper at just her second start, Mosheen was soundly beaten by Atlantic Jewel in the Thousand Guineas in the spring.

Atlantic Jewel was spelled after the Wakeful Stakes with back soreness.

In her absence, Mosheen made her rivals look second rate in the VRC Oaks (2500m), leading all the way.

She has stepped up to another level this autumn recording two of her Group One wins against the males in the Australian Guineas and Randwick Guineas.

During her time off, Sly sold a half share in the filly to Japanese racing supremo Katsumi Yoshida who has earmarked an eventual mating with champion Japanese horse Deep Impact.

Atlantic Jewel has not been seen at the races since the Wakeful Stakes but will be nominated for the Sapphire Stakes and the Group One TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
