Lightly raced four-year-old Nicconi will launch another Group One sprint campaign when he resumes at Moonee Valley.

Saturday's Group Three McEwen Stakes (1000m) will be the David Hayes trained stallion's dress rehearsal for the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) under lights at the Valley on September 25.

Already a winner of the Group One The Galaxy in Sydney in April, Nicconi is relatively untapped having raced just nine times.

Among his four wins was his only start at the Valley in restricted grade in January but he has blossomed in to one of the most talented sprinters in Australia.

"We are very happy with him," said assistant trainer Tom Dabernig. "He has come back in terrific order he is about where we want him first up.

"He has drawn ideally in four and there looks like looks like good speed in the race so hopefully he gets the run of the race."

Craig Williams is having his third ride on Nicconi having partnered him to victory in The Galaxy and also when third in the Danehill Stakes at Flemington a year ago.

Dabernig said an unofficial barrier trial at Flemington and strong track gallop at Seymour two weeks ago has Nicconi in top shape.

"If he runs well he will head towards the Manikato," Dabernig said.

Track specialist Lucky Secret is chasing his eighth win in nine Valley starts and will ensure a hot pace as will Monash Stakes winner I Am Invincible, Typhoon Zed, Wilander, and Morgan Dollar.

Lee Freedman trains Wilander who he hopes will give him his third McEwen win in four years.

Miss Andretti won for the stable in 2006. Here De Angels is trying for his second win in the race after scoring for Freedman in 2007, but is now trained by Mark Kavanagh.

Noted for his roguish barrier manners Here De Angels is $13 while TAB Sportsbet can't split $3.80 favourites Nicconi, Lucky Secret and the fast finishing Secret Flyer.
