Injury-prone galloper Costa In The Glen, who promised so much as a young horse, is on track for his racetrack comeback at Caulfield.

The six-year-old has raised the hopes of his frustrated connections after recovering from chronic feet problems and more recently a tendon injury which threatened his career.

Formerly trained by Niall Phillips, the Encosta de Lago gelding is in the care of Kelvin Bourke who has entered him for Saturday's second heat of the All Victorian Sprint Series (1100m).

"I think I have got him on the right track," Bourke said.

A winner of four of his eight starts, Costa In the Glen's only run in the last two years was at Benalla where he ran a close fourth to multiple stakes winner Royal Ida in the Weary Dunlop Handicap (1206m) in October 2009.

A comeback was aborted in March last year and again earlier this year.

After months of perseverance, Bourke was able to correct Costa In The Glen's feet trouble but had to scratch him at Sandown in January when he injured his tendon.

"I trialled him back in January and he really showed how well he can gallop," Bourke said.

"Unfortunately he blew a hole in his tendon which was only small but enough to stop him racing."

Bourke said Costa In The Glen had remained in the work and the signs were encouraging for a successful comeback campaign.

"We kept him in the stable, giving him long, steady work at the beach rushing him through the water and working him on the treadmill and he's been all right," Bourke said.

"We haven't put a lot of pressure on him and I'm tipping he will probably need the run on Saturday, but he's been in work along time and I'm happy with him.

"The main problem has been his feet but they have been really good for six months and now we are just hoping."

Costa In The Glen is an exciting galloper who is noted for giving away big starts in his races and unwinding whirlwind finishes.

Saturday's race has attracted a strong 30-horse entry including unbeaten South Australian sprinter Basil Da Man and stablemate Tramuntana, the Tony Vasil-trained Balavan who has been beaten once in six starts, Group One-placed Curtana and her Peter Moody-trained stablemate Elumino, Zedi Knight, Royal Ida and Magical Pearl.
