Talented but injury-prone galloper Costa In The Glen is set to make his first appearance for his new trainer Kelvin Bourke at Caulfield on Saturday.

Now a six-year-old, Costa In The Glen hasn't raced for 19 months when he finished fourth as favourite to Royal Ida in the Weary Dunlop Hcp (1206m) at Benalla in October 2009 when prepared by Niall Phillips.

He will return over 1000 metres on Saturday in heat three of the All Victorian Sprint Series.

"He's had multiple problems and to use an old cliche, we're just taking it one run at a time," former champion jumps jockey Bourke said.

The Encosta de Lago gelding's four wins include a 1400m victory at Sandown and he has run a second, a third and two fourths from eight starts.

"His main problem was his feet but they have been good for the last three months," Bourke said.

"He'll probably never be as good as what he was but in saying that he looks terrific and he's done a lot of work down at the beach.

"Some days he goes on the treadmill. He does a bit of everything, I've had him in work for six months.

"I'd say he'd be nice and bouncy for the 1000 metres on Saturday. He'll probably run all right but the gallop will do him good.

"I'd be looking at going from there (Caulfield) on to the Golden Topaz."

The Golden Topaz (1200m), heat four of the Sprint Series, is at Swan Hill on June 10 while the $150,000 final (1200m) is run at Flemington on July 9.

There were 32 nominations for the event including Group One placed Raffaello, now prepared at Warrnambool by Patrick Ryan, stakes-winners Secret Flyer, Magical Pearl and Morgan Dollar; unbeaten Basil Da Man and heat 2 winner Beyond Pardon are also nominated.

Raffaello has also been entered for an open handicap at Randwick on Saturday.
