Robbie Laing is expecting an improved performance from Titus Vinius at Moonee Valley on Saturday as he tries to qualify him for next month's $150,000 Banjo Paterson Series Final at Flemington.

The General Nediym four-year-old is engaged in the Gillies Famous Pies Country Cup (2040m) which is the fourth of six heats of the staying series.

Titus Vinius didn't get into the race at Flemington last Saturday when he settled beyond midfield for Damien Oliver in the LV Lachal Hcp (1700m) and weakened to finish 12th to Euphoric Realm on a dead track.

Stewards reported that Oliver told them Titus Vinius was better suited on a rain-affected track and would appreciate a longer distance, while veterinary stewards said he was lame in the near-foreleg after the race.

"Ollie rode him great, probably too good, but he's a horse who has to be ridden out the back and rest and have one crack at them," Laing said.

The entire had pleased Laing at his previous two starts when running on strongly for third to Sophrosyne over 1500m at Sandown and then second to Shadowfax over 1600m at Caulfield.

Craig Newitt, who won two straight races on Titus Vinius last December, including a 2500m event at Moonee Valley, takes the reins on Saturday.

"His pet trips are 2000 metres and further and we are trying to qualify him for the Banjo Paterson Series Final," Laing said.

"He's a 2500-metre winner at the Valley and at his next start was beaten a nose (by Butwaittheresmore) over the same trip at Flemington."

Titus Vinius is at $11 with TAB Sportsbet which has Zoomin and Royal Commands equal favourites at $4.20.

Meanwhile, the Greg Eurell-trained Go My Girl will try to make it two straight wins in the Dominant Hcp (2040m) after she came back from retirement to win at Sandown on June 4.

"She had a bit of knee trouble at the end of her last preparation so she went to stud but didn't get in foal," Eurell said.

The Archway six-year-old came back from a10-month break and has since run third over 1300m, second over 1400m and the win over 1600m - all at Sandown.

"Bringing her back has paid dividends and she's getting up to her right distance now," Eurell said.

Go My Girl has won four of her 20 starts and is a 2040m winner at Moonee Valley.

The mare will again be ridden by Chris Symons.

Go My Girl is $3 favourite ahead of Dance With Her and Shylock's Daughter at $4, Third Day at $4.40 with Picalero next best at $14.

The track is rated a slow (7) and the rail is in the true position.
