Lee Freedman will accept Dane Julia with the intention of backing her up in Saturday's $125,000 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown after being encouraged by the weight she received for the Group Three feature.

A Group One winner in both South Africa and New Zealand, the six-year-old mare will carry 54.5kg, 1.5kg above the minimum, in what is the last Group race of the spring in Melbourne.

Freedman has won the Eclipse (1800m) just once with one of his best-ever horses, Super Impose, in 1988.

Dane Julia carried 56.5kg when she defeated Eclipse Stakes entry Rose Syrah by a long neck in the Listed Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown last Saturday, her first victory in 19 Australian starts since being purchased by owner Sean Buckley.

"We quite like the weight she's got so, as long as she's had a good week, we'll probably go to acceptances and have look at the field," Freedman said.

"Admittedly she only beat mares in Listed grade last Saturday but she does drop a couple of kilos and we fancy trying her at that trip again.

"She's actually won twice at 1800 metres in South Africa."

One of those wins was in the Group One Fillies Classic in March 2007.

The Freedman stable has tried her beyond 1600m only twice when she ran fourth to Benson over 1800m at Caulfield in May 2008 and when runner-up to Sparkling Satine over 1740m at Flemington in September last year.

Freedman said Dane Julia had raced without luck in many of her starts since she arrived from South Africa.

The stable took her to New Zealand for two Group One races in April this year and she managed to win the Breeders Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha.

Dwayne Dunn will again ride Dane Julia if she runs in the Eclipse which attracted 28 entries.

Freedman said he wasn't keen to start stablemate Timetable in the Eclipse and the imported five-year-old may instead run in Saturday's OJ Smith Hcp (1800m) at Morphettville.
