Gai Waterhouse is confident Bank Robber can become the latest member of the Group One winner's club in the BTC Cup at Doomben.

Bank Robber arrived safely in Brisbane by float on Thursday for the first Group One race of the Brisbane winter carnival on Saturday after having failed at three previous attempts at the elite level.

The four-year-old will be ridden by Blake Shinn when he faces a strong field including reigning BTC Cup champion Apache Cat, Oakleigh Plate winner Swiss Ace and 2007 Stradbroke Handicap victor Sniper's Bullet in the 1200-metre feature.

However, last year's Stradbroke Handicap winner Mr Baritone will miss the BTC Cup after being injured.

"He's got a small infection in his near-front pastern and we've had to give him some anti-imflammatories," trainer Michael Moroney said.

"It's not serious and it's not a major drama that will affect him for the Stradbroke next month.

"He'll be right to run in the BTC Sprint next week."

Waterhouse gave Bank Robber his first test at Group One level when the gelding was runner-up to stablemate Theseo in the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick in October.

She then sent Bank Robber to Melbourne for his second run at the top level last spring but he could manage only fourth to All Silent in the Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November.

A trip west to Perth saw Bank Robber falter again two weeks later when a close fifth, beaten less than 1-1/2 lengths, to Gilded Venom at his last appearance in the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot.

Waterhouse is refusing to hoist the white flag in the BTC Cup with Bank Robber but rates Apache Cat and Swiss Ace the major threats to her charge.

"Those horses are always a worry because they keep producing," Waterhouse said.

"But my bloke is spot-on for this race and ready to go.

"It won't be too short for him as 1200 metres is exactly what he is looking for first-up."

Waterhouse is hopeful Bank Robber can collect more than one Group One while he's in Brisbane.

"He's run some fabulous races in Group One races but he just hasn't been able to break through at that level yet," Waterhouse said.

"But that could be about to change. He's a little older now and has matured a lot and he's very wound up."

Waterhouse believes 1400 metres is Bank Robber's favoured distance.

"I think he's best around 1400 metres so his next run will be the Doomben 10,000 and hopefully he'll be my third runner in the Stradbroke this year," she said.

"I'm hoping to run Royal Discretion in the Stradbroke and Belong To Many might also start if she runs well in the BTC Sprint next week."
