Alinghi's brother Shoot Through made a small down payment on his $2.2 million purchase price when the gelding broke through for his maiden victory in front of his visiting trainer John Thompson at Doomben.

In a race marred by the fall of First Pipemajor just before the home turn, Shoot Through powered home to win Wednesday's Polo @ Doomben Plate (1030m) by three-quarters of a length.

Fallen jockey Bobby El-Issa miraculously escaped serious injury when he avoided smashing into the running rail but was taken to Brisbane's St Andrews Hospital for x-rays after complaining of a sore right shoulder.

Thompson, who plans to make regular trips to Brisbane when his Warwick Farm stables are closed, wasn't carried away with Shoot Through's win in his first Queensland start.

Shoot Through started his career in Melbourne with Mick Price and his first prize cheque of $8450 took his total prizemoney tally to $15,375.

"He's been a disappointment but he's had a lot of problems," Thompson said.

"He's probably more suited to 1400 metres."

Numbers at Thompson's Queensland stable at Wadham Park in the Gold Coast hinterland will rise dramatically once Nathan Tinkler's Sydney base moves from Warwick Farm to Hawkesbury.

"We've got 45 horses in work now and eventually we'll have around 60 in work in Queensland," he said.

"Now that we won't be training at Warwick Farm and have cut back our numbers in Sydney I intend to get to Brisbane every two weeks or so.

"Melbourne and Brisbane will be our main bases from now on."

However, Thompson said he had no plans to move from Sydney but would settle in Queensland if forced.

"If I had to move anywhere I'd move here because of the numbers we'll have (in Queensland)," he said.

"But I doubt it and I'll just float around."

Shoot Through is raced by Tinkler's Patinack Farm Racing Syndicate and partners including his breeder Yarraman Park Stud.

Alinghi was one of the star fillies of her era winning more than $3.4 million in prizemoney with 11 wins from 18 starts.

She won four times at the elite level in the Blue Diamond, Thousand Guineas and Newmarket Handicap in Victoria and the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide as well as finishing third to Dance Hero in the Group One Golden Slipper at Rosehill in 2004.

Alinghi finished her career with two starts in the United States with trainer Bobby Frankel, winning a Group Three race at Saratoga in August 2005 before an eighth in her final appearance in the Group One Shadwell Mile at Keeneland in Kentucky in October that year.

Shoot Through's win was the first of a double for Thompson who also won the Montrose Access Plate (1350m) with Hour Of Peril.
