Departing...Sad to learn of the death of leading racing identity and breeder Geoff White at age 81. A fixture at the races for many years with wife Beryl, the family's purple and white racing silks have graced the winner's circle at major race days for decades. The Whites founded a Thoroughbred dynasty with their 1982 Golden Slipper winner Marscay, and enjoyed ongoing success with broodmare daughters of the champion stallion's family. The family recently offered iconic Scone Thoroughbred nurseries Bhima and Invermien for sale, planning to secure a smaller property and continue to breed to race. (www.breednet.com.au).

Victoria's Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board has eased the penalty on jockey Peter Mertens for failing to ride out a runner at Traralgon. Stewards fined Mertens $3000 for sitting up on Rick's Lady in the closing stages of a 1430m race, costing her 3rd spot. The three-man RAD Board panel dismissed Mertens's appeal against the decision but reduced his fine to $500.
