PROGRESSIVE Leebaz will be given his chance to add to his impressive CV in Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup. John Hawkes has confirmed that Leebaz, a last start winner of the Hawkesbury Cup, deserved his shot in the Group 1.
“He’s earned his chance, his form has been good,” Hawkes said. “It’s a different race, weight-for-age. It’s a big step, but we will give him a chance. We’ve got nothing to lose”
Hawkes said Leebaz, a winner of six of his nine starts, would head to the spelling paddock after the Doomben Cup. James McDonald, searching for his fifth Group 1 this season, will again ride Leebaz, which is the $3.80 favourite with Sportsbet.com.au.
