Irish raider Dirar swept through the field to land the big Ebor Hdcp at York UK. Gordon Elliott's 5YO was sent out at 14/1 after his 3rd behind the reopposing Overturn in the Galway Hurdle but while the latter faded badly from the turn for home, Dirar continued to travel strongly. So what happened to the Melbourne Cup prospects in the Ebor? None fared well. Martyr was sent out fav at 9/2 and ran 10th, Fortuni was 15th at 9/1, Dangerous Midge ran 8th at 11/1, Darley Sun was 12th at 14/1 and Sopranist was 7th at 40/1. In the Lonsdale Cup, three Cups entries all ran ordinarily - King of Wands 3rd at 3/1, Illustrious Blue 5th at 7/1 and Akmal 7th at 11/2.
