He's drawn wide and up in class but the John Size-trained Croesus is screaming to win a race and he remains the horse to beat in the Volunteers' Challenge Cup (1,000m) at Happy Valley tonight.

After a three-year-old season curtailed by problems, Croesus (Keith Yeung Ming-lun) has raced twice this term - both over the Valley 1,000m - and hasn't had everything quite go right, but he found the line strongly for a third, then last-start second in Class Four.

In each of those races he has had the benefit of Dicky Lui Cheuk-yin's 10-pound claim. While he has to settle for a much smaller allowance for Yeung this time, that is offset by his much greater experience.

And he still drops in the weights from 123 pounds to 113, despite losing that 10-pound allowance due to the class rise into a fairly undistinguished Class Three field.

Despite a wide gate, the race presents an opportunity for Croesus to be ridden quietly and hit the line again with plenty of speed across the draw from Xi Ying Men, Touch Go (Andreas Suborics), Mr Ginger (Zac Purton), Ride On the Fire and Ever Beauty - and that seems to be how he has gone best.

For a danger, the Francis Lui Kin-wai-trained Touch Go is a course specialist who comes back from unsuitable races in Class Two to Class Three where he was beaten less than a length by in-form Gold Racer the last time he stepped out over this distance in the grade in January.
