LEADING trainer Mark Kavanagh might have headed home from Geelong yesterday with a winning double that included promising four-year-old We're Gonna Rock but the day was not without disappointment, with unbeaten mare Cat's Pyjamas, sent out an odds-on favourite, bucking in the early stages of her race and losing any chance, reports The Age.

Its report adds: We're Gonna Rock was highly impressive winning at his debut at Flemington last December but then ran last after failing to handle the Moonee Valley circuit at his next start in February.

In yesterday's race, jockey Michael Rodd had We're Gonna Rock ($1.80 favourite) nicely positioned midfield. The only worry came in the straight where he had to change course to get a rails run, before scoring by three-quarters of a length from Mo' Money. Kavanagh said he was pleased to see We're Gonna Rock show something like his real ability, although he wasn't getting carried away, despite the fact the son of Fastnet Rock had already been specked in early Cox Plate betting.

''At the moment we have a four-year-old who has won one race and is a 72-rater who will get balloted out of every race on a Saturday,'' he said. ''There's a fair amount of water to go under the bridge before we talk about Cox Plates.''
