Whobegotyou will return to his favourite track on Saturday where he will have a shot at back-to-back victories in the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The five-year-old has won four of his five starts at the Valley - three of them at Group Two level- with his only failure when sixth as favourite behind So You Think in last year's Cox Plate (2040m).

Trainer Mark Kavanagh, who produced Shocking to win Saturday's Makybe Diva Stakes, there was a genuine excuse for Whobegotyou finishing out of the placings in the Cox Plate.

"Last year was the hardest Moonee Valley track that has been presented I believe ever for a Cox Plate and certainly if they present a decent StrathAyr surface for the Cox Plate (this year) he would be competitive in it," Kavanagh said.

The Flemington trainer was delighted with the gelding's return to racing after a two-run winter stint in Brisbane when he went down a half-length to So You Think in the Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last Saturday week.

"It was an excellent performance in the Memsie and he'll go around next Saturday at Moonee Valley," Kavanagh said.

"He always runs well first up. It's a situation where it's how long into his preparation before he's had enough.

"Last year I firmly believe it was the hard track, it wasn't anything to do with Whobegotyou. He just can't handle rock-hard tracks.

"His start before that was terrific, he was the Group One winner of the Yalumba. Before the Cox Plate he was unbeaten at Moonee Valley."

Laurence Eales, the owner of Shocking, also races Whobegotyou.

Last year Whobegotyou reversed the placings with Mic Mac in the Dato Tan Chin Nam after finishing runner-up to that horse in the Memsie.

Among his rivals on Saturday are expected to be Cox Plate favourite So You Think, AJC Australian Derby winner Shoot Out who ran an excellent third in the Memsie and five-time Group One winner Typhoon Tracy, a close up fourth in the Memsie.
