Weekend Hussler firmed even further in Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate betting after second declarations were taken for both races.

With 80 horses left in the Caulfield Cup, the seven-time Group One winner has firmed from the $3 available after his Underwood Stakes victory at Caulfield on Saturday to $2.60 favouritism with TAB Sportsbet.

Weekend Hussler is now the $2.25 Cox Plate favourite having firmed from the $2.80 on offer after his Underwood victory.

Pompeii Ruler (56kg) is the new Caulfield Cup topweight after Efficient (58kg) and Sirmione (56kg) were both non-acceptors.

But under racing rules the topweight is required to carry at least 57kg which means that Caulfield Cup weights will go up one kilogram.

If Pompeii Ruler was not a Caulfield Cup acceptor, Weekend Hussler (55.5kg) would be topweight and weights would have to go up 1.5kg.

Three northern hemisphere gallopers remain in the Caulfield Cup, the Luca Cumani-trained pair Mad Rush and Bauer and the Godolphin-owned All The Good, but there will not be an international runner in the Cox Plate.

Light Fantastic, Alamosa, Maybe Better, Playwright and Light Vision were other horses to drop out of the Caulfield Cup.

There are now 56 horses left in the Cox Plate and as expected Australian Guineas and Liston Stakes winner Light Fantastic was not among them.

Meanwhile, trainer Danny O'Brien said Cups prospect Gallopin will run in the Group One Metropolitan Hcp (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday week with Danny Nikolic engaged for the ride.
