Hartnell has firmed from $6.00 into $4.00 for the Cox Plate after yesterday’s brilliant victory in the Turnbull Stakes, but Winx still remains the one to beat as the $1.80 favourite with TAB.
Yesterday’s performance also saw Hartnell claim outright favouritism for the Melbourne Cup at $7.00, ahead of Jameka at $9.00.
“Hartnell was again brilliant on the weekend and his hat-trick of wins have made it clear he will be hard to beat in any spring feature he contests, with racing fans now hoping he will head to the Cox Plate for a Our Waverley Star v Bonecrusher battle as he looks to take down Winx,” said TAB’s Nick Quinn.
“Almandin ($13) also raced into Melbourne Cup contention with a dominant win in the Bart Cummings and was subsequently given a 1kg penalty which takes him to 51kg and helps his claims of gaining a Melbourne Cup start.
“Jameka was ultra impressive in running second to emerging superstar Hartnell in the Turnbull and after the weight drop will be popular and hard to beat in the Caulfield Cup where she is priced at $4.20.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s racing at Caulfield, Foxplay is the $2.50 favourite in the Thousand Guineas while Impending is on the top line of betting for the Caulfield Guineas at $4.40.
