Champion two-year-old Sepoy is on track to resume in next month's Vain Stakes after impressively accounting for a group of older horses in a jumpout at Werribee.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond Stakes winner was unextended as he coasted to the line a length ahead of his rivals, covering the 800 metres in 49 seconds on Friday and pleasing trainer Peter Snowden.
Snowden's son and Melbourne foreman Paul Snowden said Sepoy was a "ball of muscle" and that the jumpout was just what he needed.
"He had a good trial but he still had plenty up his sleeve," Snowden said.
"He had to do a bit because he needed it as part of his program but his ears were flipping everywhere the last 50 metres."
He said the imposing colt was in magnificent order as the finishing touches were put to his spring launch in the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 13.
"He's stronger now and as hard as a rock," Snowden said.
"He is a ball of muscle but it takes plenty of work to keep him up there.
"He will get away from you quite quickly if you don't give it to him."
The stable wants Sepoy to do all his spring racing in Melbourne with the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day his primary goal.
The Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 3 and the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 30 are on his program while the $1 million Group One Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on November 5 is also an option.
The son of Elusive Quality has raced six times for five wins and a second and has earnings of more than $2.9 million.
