Golden Slipper favourite Raceway moved closer to his date with destiny when he recorded his second win from two starts at Warwick Farm.

His victory in Saturday's Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) came just 40 minutes after Magic Millions-winning stablemate Driefontein scored a tough win in the fillies equivalent, the Widden Stakes.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has produced nine individual two-year-old winners this season and both Raceway and Driefontein are raced by Denise Martin's Star Thoroughbreds.

Driefontein was forced to take an inside run to fight hard and while Raceway ($1.24 fav) only won by a long head, it was a case of him exerting his authority over Shelford ($19).

"You don't have to win Golden Slippers by ten lengths," Waterhouse said.

"I've won three of them and you only have to win by a head.

"The jump in class was huge and he is very exciting."

Rumours abounded a week ago that all was not right with Raceway but Waterhouse said the only thing wrong with him was immaturity.

"There has never been anything wrong with him except that he is goofy," she said.

"He seemed to get a little unbalanced on the turn and he's such a big horse it didn't help.

"He found the line well."

Raceway's jockey Hugh Bowman said he did not think there were any serious issues with his manners.

"I didn't notice him wobble too much on the turn. I've had horses wobble worse," he said.

"He is a class horse and I expected him to do what he did.

"He's a natural athlete and a ready-made two-year-old.

"There's plenty to like about him."

Raceway is the $6 TAB Sportsbet favourite for the Golden Slipper on April 7 ahead of next week's Blue Diamond favourite Samaready ($9) with Driefontein in a group on $13 along with stablemates Pierro and No Looking Back.
