Much-improved galloper Over Quota will back up in the Group Three Easter Cup at Caulfield on Saturday week providing he pleases trainer Mark Webb at Moonee Valley.

The Testa Rossa gelding has had a fruitful campaign going into Saturday's Silver Thomas Hanley Mile (1600m) at his ninth start this term, having won four of his last six outings.

The six-year-old was a $15 chance when he won third-up over 1600m at Sandown on December 21 before winning at $61 over the same trip at Flemington on January 14.

He was again sent out at $15 a couple of weeks later when completing a hat-trick with his win in the $100,000 Summer Championship Final (1600m) at Sandown, beating Agrippa and Giresun.

After a third to Under The Hat when stepped up to 1720m at Flemington, Over Quota bounced back as $3.70 favourite to win the Listed Kilmore Cup (1600m), both last month.

Last start he was beaten 4-1/2 lengths at Group Two level when ninth to Green Moon in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 10.

"He's just flying the horse," Webb said.

"I couldn't really fault it (his Blamey effort). He drew wide, he had to work hard early and he hit a flat spot at the 400 metres but to his credit he was still super strong on the line."

Over Quota will jump from barrier one in the 13-horse field in which the emergencies Laspiel and Imashadow have both gained starts due to the scratchings of topweight Hawks Bay and Revolt.

Peter Mertens, who has been aboard Over Quota in seven of his eight wins, will again have the ride.

"He drew one in the Kilmore Cup as he has at the Valley on Saturday and it makes such a big difference when they can have a cushy run early," Webb said.

"Ideally I'd like to see him settle just in behind the leaders because if he can get a soft run early he has a good turn of foot at the end of his races.

"He's got into this race well weight-wise with 56.5kg.

"He's a strong horse, fit and well, and we'll give him a week's back up into the Easter Cup which we did into the Kilmore Cup and he jut brained them in that."

Webb said Over Quota would be given a spell after the Easter Cup ahead of the winter.

"He just does not go a yard in the wet at all," he said.

The Peter Moody-trained Testascana, who will jump from barrier 11, is $4.20 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Eclair Surprise at $5.50, Snow Cover at $6.50, Over Quota at $8.50 and The Wingman at $10.

Testascana, the winner of nine of his 22 starts, won the Listed National Jockeys Celebration Day Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield last August.

At his third run in this preparation, the Testa Rossa five-year-old gelding was beaten a short neck when runner-up to the in-form mare Dance With Her in the $125,000 Golden Mile at Bendigo on March 17.

Dance With Her subsequently won last Sunday's Pakenham Cup (1750m).
