Magic Millions Trophy equal favourite Express Air continues to thrive since her gallant second to the outstanding Youthful Jack at Doomben.

Trainer Rex Lipp said he could not be happier with the Piccolo filly who finished a half length behind Youthful Jack in Saturday's Listed Vo Rogue Plate (1350m).

Express Air is locked in favouritism on TAB Sportsbet with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Rock Kingdom at $4.60 for the 1400-metre race at the Gold Coast on January 10.

"She came home and licked the tin that night and has just done so well for us since that she couldn't possibly be in better order," Lipp said.

Lipp, who knows first hand how good Youthful Jack is having trained the horse early on for his friend and part-owner of the gelding Ross Stitt, believes with some luck the result could have been different.

"I think she would have put the pressure right on Youthful Jack if she got a clear run," Lipp said.

"When they straightened, Youthful Jack probably got a length and a half on us and she managed to peg him back to a half length and that was a big effort to take ground from him."

Youthful Jack had four starts under the guidance of Stitt before being transferred to Lipp's Toowoomba stables.

He won two Listed races for Lipp including the Australia Post Stakes (1400m) before being transferred to Allan Denham at Rosehill.

"Ross brought him to me for a bit of education, the horse had no idea, he didn't know how to jump properly or anything," Lipp said.

"Once he learned to race he was always going to be something special."

Express Air was having her second start after an 11-week let-up and Lipp is expecting her to be flying for the Magic Millions.

"She had one barrier trial and a 1200-metre race leading into it and then three weeks into a 1350 (metre) race, she's only going to get better for this race," Lipp said.

Express Air, who has two wins from six starts, could campaign in Sydney after the Magic Millions.

"We'll give her an ease-up no matter what happens and how she does in that break will determine whether she goes to Sydney or we just wait for the winter carnival in Brisbane," Lipp said.

"Either way, I've got a feeling she will be campaigning in Sydney and Melbourne during the spring."

Rock Kingdom came from the back of the field to defeat Falling In Love by a half neck over 1200 metres at Randwick on Boxing Day.
