Frankie Dettori has ridden his first Group One winner of the season, guiding Godolphin's Schiaparelli to victory in Sunday's Gran Premio del Jockey Club e Coppa d'Oro in Italy.

Schiaparelli, who won the race in 2007, led all the way for an untroubled 1-3/4 length victory over Sant'Antoniom.

Dettori remained in Europe to ride for Godolphin over the weekend in preference to making the trip to Australia to take the mount on the unplaced Kirklees in the Caulfield Cup.

The flamboyant jockey celebrated the win with his famous flying dismount.

"I'm delighted. I've won a Group One race every year since 1990 so Richard Hills and Johnny Murtagh have been taking the piss for the past three months," Dettori said.

"It's great to win this race as it is like the equivalent of the King George and now I've won it five times."

Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor told the Racing Post Schiaparelli could back up in the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp on Sunday.

"We will not make any decision until we see how he is when he gets home but, if he comes back well, he could run in the Prix Royal-Oak," Saeed said.

"He enjoyed his run and Frankie rode him very well."

Schiaparelli was the ninth win at the top level for Godolphin this year, the first coming with Seventh Street at Saratoga on August 2.

Dettori chose to ride Kite Wood, who finished second, when Mastery won the Group One St Leger under Ted Durcan for Godolphin in September, while Ahmed Ajtebi was in the saddle when Gladiatorus returned to top form in winning the Group One Premio Vittorio di Capua at San Siro eight days ago.

Dettori will look be looking to double up in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday when Godolphin intend to run the highly promising Al Zir.

The focus will then turn to the Breeders' Cup meeting on November 6 and 7 with Dettori expected to partner Delegator in the Mile.
