Promising two-year-old Wallinger is expected to be better suited at Caulfield as he attempts to extend his unbeaten run this campaign.

The Lee Freedman-trained youngster is topweight with 58kg in Saturday's John's Hope Handicap (1200m) after winning his last two races at Morphettville and Flemington.

His most impressive performance in three starts was in Adelaide where he was first-up and beat Daydream Charlie by nearly three lengths on May 2.

His other two runs have been down the straight at Flemington where he was unplaced at his race debut on New Year's Day and last week when he scored a narrow win over Dane Babylon.

Both Flemington performances have failed to convince the stable that Wallinger is a true straight course horse.

"He failed up the straight at his first start debut and he wasn't that impressive last week," Freedman said.

"It might not be an ideal track for him and racing around a turn (at Caulfield) could suit him better."

Wallinger was a headstrong colt in his first campaign but always showed good ability.

He was gelded after his disappointing debut and Freedman said he was now much more tractable.

"He has learned what it is all about and he has done really well this week so we will accept with him for Saturday," Freedman said.

By Shamardal, Wallinger failed to make his $100,000 reserve at Sydney's Classic Sale.

He is the first foal from unraced Agnes World mare Angel Of The South who is a half-sister to Group One winning sprinter Charge Forward.

Wallinger's second dam, Sydney's Dream, was a Group One winner of South Africa's Futurity Stakes (2400m).
