Four years after his biggest success in the VRC St Leger, Accumulate continues his latest comeback after a series of setbacks in Saturday's RSL Plate at Flemington.

The Zabeel seven-year-old steps up to 2000m at his fourth run back and the stable is looking for an improved showing on the anniversary of his Group Three victory.

Last start the gelding made up ground from last of nine runners to finish fifth to Diamondsondinside over 1600m at Moonee Valley on April 13.

"He'd had a long lay-off through injury and this is his fourth run back so he should be doing something on Saturday," Reg Fleming, Melbourne stable foreman for master trainer Bart Cummings, said.

"He strained a joint but he had a year off and the leg is as good as gold now.

"He hasn't had a lot go right over the time. He and Ruy Lopez are probably the two best stayers in my 15 years with Bart - that is not counting Saintly who was a champion.

"They were both really good, strong stayers but they kept breaking down all the time," added Fleming who rated both horses as better than the stable's 1999 Melbourne Cup winner Rogan Josh.

Ruy Lopez was runner-up to Sky Heights in the 1999 Turnbull Stakes (2000M) at Flemington third-up after two lengthy layoffs.

Fleming said the horse was set to win the 1996 Moonee Valley Cup on the way to the Melbourne Cup won by stablemate Saintly, but he broke down on the eve of the race.

Steve Arnold will ride Accumulate who drew barrier four in the nine-horse field and will carry 56kg, 2kg less than topweight Our Smoking Joe who was runner-up to Diamondsondinside at the Valley when second-up for his new trainer Ray Coombes at Mornington.

The Encosta De Lago eight-year-old, to be ridden again by Aaron Austin, will be trying to break through for his first win since taking out the 2006 Group Two St George Stakes (1800m) by four lengths from Lad Of The Manor at Caulfield.

Accumulate's last win was just under two years ago when he made it two straight with a victory in a Randwick Welter over 2000m.

Cummings will try to win the VRC St Leger (2800m) for the eighth time with Zabeel colt Precedence on Saturday.
