Exciting two-year-old Tango’s Daughter will be set on a path towards the Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on 16 October after the Mick Price-trained filly scored a dominant win in the Equine Haven Racehorse Spelling Plate (1000m) at Sportingbet Park Sandown today.
Owned in the same interests as 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winner Miracles Of Life, Price’s Racing Manager Luke Wilkinson said the daughter of Redoute’s Choice had always shown the stable plenty of ability.
“She’s a lovely type; you can only imagine how much she would have made had she gone through a sale ring because she’s so correct and such a good looking horse,” Wilkinson said.
“She was obviously disappointing at her first start but she’s come back a bigger and stronger horse.
“The plan is now to go for a spell and then bring her back and set her on a Thousand Guineas preparation where she’ll keep away from Miracles Of Life.”
Sent out on the second line of betting at $3, Tango’s Daughter began quickly for jockey Craig Newitt settling on the outside of the early leader Leaps And Bounds ($26) before striding to the front at the top of the home straight.
Though the favourite Il Diamante ($2) appeared set to provide a serious challenge on the outside with 300 metres left to travel, Tango’s Daughter proved far too strong over the concluding stages powering away for a 3.8 length victory over Il Diamante, with Miracle To Me a further 1.7 lengths away in third.
Speaking after the victory, Newitt said he believed the filly would measure up to a higher standard in the future.
“She’s always shown us good ability and the only blunder in her book was at her first start where she was pretty shinny (shin sore),” Newitt said.
“We came here today pretty confident, it was just a question of whether she would get through the wet but she jumped well, she travelled well and she got through the ground no problem.
“I think she’s up to winning a nice race during the spring, she’s already improved both mentally and physically and with a break I’m sure she can improve again.”
