It's official, the Kiwis are crowing! NZ Thoroughbred Marketing says NZ-bred horses have had a fantastic season at the elite level of international competition. In fact, it adds, it's been a season which easily surpasses anything achieved by the New Zealand-bred product in the last decade....The latest stats reveal that New Zealand-bred horses have been responsible for 19 individual Grp 1 winners worldwide in the season to date. Collectively this group of horses have won 22 Grp 1 races. The previous best in the past 13 years was the 17 individual Group One winners recorded in the 1997/98 season; a year when Might and Power (NZ) put together five Grp 1 victories including the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double. Appropriately it has been a horse racing in the same colours of owner Nick Moraitis, Vision and Power (NZ), who has been one of the key flag-bearers for the kiwi product globally. The Waikato Stud-bred horse won both the George Ryder Stakes-Gr.1 and Doncaster Mile-Gr.1 during a golden seven week period for NZ-bred horses at the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
