Wow! Just how good is Denman, winner of the Golden Rose at Rosehill? Trainer Peter Snowden says: 'He is a very talented horse and he went three seconds faster than any other horse we clocked on Tuesday morning..'He could be anything this horse, a mile (1600 metres) will be no problem and then who knows...It's just great to have this one on the board, for the whole team and for his sire Lonhro.''

Not such good news for Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready...He beat just one runner home after getting well way back early. A veterinary examination found the gelding to be severely distressed.

Trainer Darren Smith is supremely optimistic about Madame Pedrille's immediate future after her slashing Sheraco win. He says she'll head to the Grp 3 Research Stakes (1200 metres) at Rosehill in two weeks where she'll again clash with More Joyous. DS says: 'The sky's the limit for her.'

Shock Caulfield winner Figure of Speech may be a Melbourne Cup contender. He's a bit old at 8 but trainer Brian Jenkins is ready to forget that factor. 'He's nominated for the Melbourne Cup,' he says. ' We know he is definitely a country cups horse, but I think he'll run two miles and he showed today he's got the class to win a Listed race over 1700 metres.'

With the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in mind, the performances of Efficient and Viewed were interesting ones in the Memsie. Last year's MC winner Viewed ($31) ran 4th and the 2007 Cup winner Efficient ($101) was 5th. Both stayers showed early speed in their first runs this campaign and fought on well. Weights will be released next week for the Cups.
