CRAIG Williams’ day went the complete cycle. What started on a dismal note with news that Dandino had injured a off foreleg and would miss the Caulfield Cup ended with him landing the ride on Araldo.
But, Williams has Joao Moreira to thank for riding Araldo after the Brazilian declined the offer to ride the Mike Moroney-trained stayer in the $3 million race.
And, Moreira only became available when Naturalism Stakes winner Gris Caro was scratched from the Cup with a bruised hoof.
Moroney extended the offer to Moreira, but the Hong Kong-based jockey decided to stay at home.
Williams was called off the ‘bench’ to ride Araldo, which is coming off a 1.3 length third behind Junoob in The Metropolitan at Randwick on October 4. (Racing Network)
