A capacity field of 20 will line-up in Saturday’s Group 1 $500,000 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. When the field was finalised today, the barrier draw threw up some serious ‘nasties’ to a few of the more fancied runners.

Long-time favourite Sistine Demon came up with the horror gate of number 20, while New Zealand sprinter Natuzzi came up with the outside gate – 22.

Top-weight Bel Sprinter, struggling somewhat to re-capture his gun Group 1 form, has drawn barrier one, while a perfect gate of barrier six came out for Nikki Burke’s Unpretentiousand champion jockey Damien Oliver.

Local heroine Miracles Of Life drew well in gate two, while Gai Waterhouse’s Driefontein, the winner of her past two starts in Adelaide, also fared well in barrier three.

Driefontein led throughout to win the Group 1 $400,000 Sportingbet Classic (1200m) for mares two weeks ago and she will prove hard to catch again.

Last year’s winner Platelet, for Darren Weir, has drawn gate 17 and Sessions, lining up in a Group 1 for new Darley head-trainer John O’Shea, will start from barrier 16.

David Hayes’ quality filly Gregers has drawn nicely in barrier five.
