Smart sprinter Simple comes to the all-weather for the first time in the Chak On Handicap (1,200m) tonight, but that should not prove any obstacle to him landing victory.

Already a winner of three of his 10 starts, the Dennis Yip Chor-hong-trained Simple has proven his versatility with wins at Sha Tin and Happy Valley on the turf and his trials early this season suggested he will have no issue with producing his form on the dirt as well.

Simple (Douglas Whyte) meets up again for the third successive time this season with John Moore's Frederick Engels (Brett Prebble), who downed him at Happy Valley last start in Class Three, but the grey can turn the tables this time.

There is a three-pound weight swing Simple's way for a neck margin, though Frederick Engels' fans might argue that he didn't have the totally uninterrupted run down the straight that Simple enjoyed.

There isn't a huge margin between Simple and Frederick Engels, and in the two recent meetings the one giving away a start to the other has finished behind him. First-up that was Frederick Engels, but at Happy Valley it was Simple who stood the Moore-trained horse more than a length into the straight over 1,000m after having drawn outside him in a fast-run race.
