TRAINER Neville Layt is hedging his bets as the pressure rises in the countdown to the Golden Slipper and will accept for Karuta Queen for the Sweet Embrace Stakes and Black Opal next weekend, reports the Daily Telegraph in Sydney.
It says: Layt said the barrier draws would decide whether Karuta Queen races at Warwick Farm on Saturday or goes to Canberra for the Black Opal Stakes on Sunday.
As the Queanbeyan trainer grapples with that decision, Darley Crown Lodge supremo Peter Snowden soon has to make the tough call of his own Blue Diamond winner Sepoy - does he need another race or just a barrier trial before the Golden Slipper on April 2.
"Sepoy comes back into the stables [today] and we will have a look at him, see how he is, and then make a decision probably later this week whether we trial him on March 15 or give him one more start in the Todman Stakes [March 19] before the Golden Slipper," Snowden said.
