Long-time favourite The Offer will press-on and run in the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 4.

It was reported The Offer had pulled-up a little ‘scratchy’ after his closing 11th, beaten just three and a half lengths, in Saturday’s $3 million Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Adrian Bott, Racing Manager for trainer Gai Waterhouse, today (Thursday) told Racing Network The Offer would still be running in the Cup.

“Gai gave him a few days off after the Caulfield Cup,” Bott started.

“We were very happy with his run and he has been effective on top of the ground.

"Obviously we’d like some rain because that helps him and can effect a few others, but the Melbourne Cup has always been his aim and we’re still heading to the race,” Bott said.

He also confirmed Tommy Berry was still confirmed and booked as the Sydney Cup winner’s rider.

The Offer was favourite for the Melbourne Cup for several months and is still highly regarded in latest markets at $18.

Significant rain would see that quote shorten dramatically as he is a superior wet-tracker and a superior stayer.
