International Cox Plate contender Gailo Chop has scored a dominant win in the Group 3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte in France.

It was a terrific return to form for the OTI Racing-owned star, who was eighth after over-racing in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Trainer Antoine de Watringant thinks the win down the 2000m straight will have Gailo Chop primed for his Australian assignment.

"What delighted me most was how much more relaxed he was today, even in the parade ring beforehand, which is a very good sign ahead of his trip to Australia," De Watrigant told Racing Post.

"He will go into quarantine in Newmarket next Thursday and will arrive in Australia on October 10. The objective is the Cox Plate and after he runs down there he will be coming back to me in France next season."

CrownBet rates Gailo Chop a $15 chance for the Cox Plate.
