COX Plate invitee Maxios posted a five length win in a Group 1 race in France overnight heightening speculation he could make the trip to Melboune, reports Racing Network.

The Jonathon Pease-trained Maxios sprinted clear in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (1600 m) at Longchamp to claim his second Group 1 race.

Maxios won the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan (1855 m) at Longchamp in May where he defeated Planteur.

Last year he won the Group 3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (2000 m) defeating subsequent Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Reliable Man by one and a half lengths.

Maxios is a winner of eight of his 17 starts with half his wins over 2000 metres.

Before the race the word was that a top three placing would see Maxios come to Melbourne, but the ease of the victory may see him remain in France.
