GLEN Boss rates Mr O’Ceirin, effortless winner of Saturday's Printhouse Graphics Handicap at Moonee Valley, a potential Group 2 horse, says Racing Network News.

Boss noted that Mr O’Ceirin, runner-up in last year’s Naturalism Handicap at Caulfield, simply had “lengths” on his rivals despite lumping 59.5 kg.

“He’s a Group 2 horse every day of the week,” declared Boss. “He had a bit on them today.”

Trainer Ciaron Maher said he will discuss with the owners what direction to take with Mr O’Ceirin before he takes aim at the spring carnival.

Maher said there is another suitable race for the five-year-old at Moonee Valley in a fortnight and that would be weighed into the equation.

Asked what he thought was the best distance for Mr O’Ceirin, Maher replied: “I don’t we’ve seen him at it yet. I think he’s a mile and a half horse (sic 2400 metres).”

“He looked as if he had a fair bit on them and that’s the way it panned out.”

Boss was content to let Mr O’Ceirin sit outside the leader then allowed him to stride to the front at the 500 metre mark.

In a twinkling, Mr O’Ceirin, backed from $3.60 to $3.40 favourite, put a gap between his rivals as he coasted to a three and a half length win from De Fine Lago, $5.50, with three-quarters of a length to Westsouthwest, $4.60, which ran home well for third.
