Ah, so happy...The connections of Caulfield Cup winner and Melbourne Cup-favourite Admire Rakti believe the horse is well weighted for the big one.
Quizzed at the Werribee International Quarantine Centre on Thursday, travelling foreman Go Shogemi (for trainer Tomoyuki Umeda), said they had expected the horse to receive a bigger weight penalty for the Melbourne Cup, after winning the Caulfield Cup.
“We expected more and think the weight is fair,” Shogemi told Racing Network.
He said they had prepared Admire Rakti for the Melbourne Cup exactly the same way they would have had he been at home in Japan.
They were able to give him a quiet week after winning the Caulfield Cup and he has done everything right since.
“We are very happy with the horse, very happy with the weight,” he said.
Admire Rakti will do his final piece of work at Werribee tomorrow morning in preparation for the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday.
