Brett Scott couldn't speak highly enough of Yamanaura who further enhanced his excellent record over the jumps when comfortably winning the Barr Smith Hurdle at Moonee Valley.

The champion jumps jockey, who doubles as stable foreman for Kiwi trainer John Wheeler at his satellite base at Mornington, said the Yamanin Vital gelding was the best jumper in the team.

"You could take him anywhere in the world this horse, he handles any going," Scott said.

"Wheels wants to take half a dozen horses overseas (to England), but he's the only one we've got that could.

"He was bought to be a jumper and jumping is his forte."

Yamanaura ($3 fav) took his record to four wins and two placings from seven starts over the jumps with a 1-1/2 length victory over Black And Bent ($5) with July ($8) a half-length away third.

"He sticks on, he didn't corner that well, it's quite sharp the turn today (with the rail out seven metres). He's a big horse and he really wobbled off," Scott said.

"I could hear Black And Bent coming and to his credit he kicked. He's as tough as nails. The more he's challenged the more he finds.

Scott said the rising six-year-old, who has had only 16 starts in all, would now go to the LV Lachal Hurdle (3900m) on August 16 and the $200,000 Grand National Hurdle (4530m) on August 30, both at Sandown.

With jumps racing under scrutiny more than ever and anti-jumps protesters outside the course, officials and racegoers breathed a sigh of relief when Bowemma, the only mare in the race, was uninjured when falling at the last hurdle down the side of the track before the home turn.

Her rider Nathan Dunn said that although the screens were brought out he knew she hadn't been hurt.

"She's not a seasoned jumper and she just clipped the top of the last and was in shock and winded," he said.

"I just let her get her breath back. I knew she was alright."

Outsider Quilter and Rude 'n' Abrupt who crashed through the third last hurdle hard, were both pulled out of the race by their riders.
