Nick Williams has denied he and his father Lloyd have imposed any kind of media ban but says comments about their racing operation will come from them not their trainer or jockeys.

Lloyd Williams issued a direction from his home on Saturday that racing telecaster TVN not be allowed to talk to new trainer Robert Hickmott or any stable jockeys after comments made following Tintern's win in the first race.

After Tintern's victory, Hickmott directed TVN to Nick Williams prompting a commentator to say it was disappointing the trainer could not speak.

Lloyd Williams sent a message to his son instructing him not to talk to TVN if any of their other horses won.

The stable took the Sandown classic with Zipping after which jockey Michael Rodd avoided TVN.

Nick Williams appeared on rival channel Sky Racing's Retro program on Sunday and defended the stable's position.

"There is no media ban from Team Williams," he said.

"There is a corporate structure in place and Lloyd Williams is the chairman.

"Lloyd Williams speaks and if he is not available then Nick Williams speaks.

"I spoke to every other media outlet at Sandown.

"If TVN doesn't want to talk to us then we won't talk to them.

"My father or myself is available at any time."

TVN is jointly owned by the Victorian race clubs and the two Sydney metropolitan clubs and is authorised to conduct pre and post-race interviews at tracks controlled by those bodies.

Hickmott replaced John Sadler last week as private trainer for the Williams stable which is based at Mount Macedon.

Tintern's victory was the first for Hickmott in his new role followed by the history making third win in the Sandown Classic by Zipping.

It has been a mixed spring for the Williams stable with 2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient ruled out of the race for the second year running with injury.
