Chris Waller has declared it will take a very good horse to beat Metal Bender in Saturday's $2.5 million Caulfield Cup, with the joint favourite likely to start from the inside barrier.

Metal Bender remained at the head of betting at $6 alongside Herculian Prince after drawing gate two for the Group One 2400m feature at Wednesday's barrier draw.

Inside Metal Bender is second emergency Red Ruler and if he doesn't gain a start the three-time Group One winner will jump from the rails.

"The fence could be off but it's a lot easier to get out off the fence than it is to get in if you've drawn wide," Waller said.

"He's done everything right, he's had the right lead-up races into it and he hit the line strongly last start.

"He's got a familiar jockey on board (Hugh Bowman) and I think that's important because he knows what he can do with the horse.

"The only concern is the 56 (kilograms) but it will take a very good horse to beat him."

Waller was in Melbourne on Tuesday morning as Metal Bender was given a searching gallop at Flemington and the trainer said it was the best the gelding had worked since joining his stable early this year.

Waller's Triple Honour came up with barrier 11 - he will come into eight if the emergencies don't get a run - and is rated a $31 chance.

"Triple Honour should get the run of the race midfield from his draw," Waller said.

"He's had a perfect preparation, he needs luck to go his way but he's an honest horse."

Both Metal Bender and Triple Honour have had four runs leading into the Caulfield Cup.

Metal Bender won the Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up and has since finished second in the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), third in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) and an eye-catching fourth in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Triple Honour was second in the Warwick Stakes, fourth in the Chelmsford, second in the Hill Stakes (1900m) and third in the Craven Plate (2000m).
