Outstanding mare Tuesday Joy booked her passage to Dubai with a brilliant win in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick to give Gai Waterhouse some solace after she missed out on Group One victories in Melbourne.

Northern Meteor finished fourth in the Newmarket Handicap and overwhelming favourite Theseo was grabbed on the post by Niconero in the Australian Cup at Flemington.

But Tuesday Joy ($1.90 fav) didn't let anyone down when she claimed her fourth Group One and her first win on her home track at Randwick in the 1600m weight-for-age feature.

With Waterhouse in Melbourne and owner John Singleton on the sick list his racing manager Duncan Grimley led the cheer squad for the gallant mare.

Corey Brown was the replacement rider while Nash Rawiller and Blake Shinn fulfilled stable duties at Flemington and rode a heady race, settling the mare behind the leaders Raheeb and Mentality.

Inside the final 200 metres, Vision And Power emerged as the challenger but Tuesday Joy had his measure by three-quarters of a length on the line.

"Everyone said there was no speed in the race so we left it up to Corey and he rode her a treat," Grimley said.

"It was a fantastic win and I think I could probably say it's her best win yet.

"Dubai is well and truly on now."

The win was doubly satisfying for the Singleton camp after the buckjumping performance of More Joyous in last week's Silver Slipper which has left the Golden Slipper favourite playing catch-up to get to the big race.

The Dubai Duty Free (1777m) is on World Cup day, March 28, and is a race Rawiller has already won four years ago on Elvstroem.

However, Brown is packed and on standby.

"She is a great mare and has danced every beat so far," he said.

"I'll be putting my case to stay on for Dubai."

Dubai is certainly not on the agenda for Vision And Power but trainer Joe Pride could not have been happier unless he had won.

"It was his first try at weight-for-age and to race like that was amazing," Pride said.

"I was very excited in the run.

"It opens up a few more options for him now.

Gallant Tess ran her usual honest race for third and will now be aimed at the Coolmore Classic while Melbourne Cup winner Viewed and his stablemate Moatize put in eye-catching runs for fourth and sixth respectively.

Raheeb weakened to finish last, a disappointment for his owner Nathan Tinkler whose Patinack Farm sponsored the $300,000 event.

Metropolitan Handicap winner Newport took no part in the race after making a left sidestep out of the barrier while jockey Jay Ford went right and downwards to the ground.

Ford was unharmed and Newport will now have to run in a barrier trial from an outside gate before he races again.
