Topzoff will have his first jumps start in nearly four years when he lines up in Saturday's St Steven Steeple at Moonee Valley.

The rising 13-year-old passed his latest test on the flat when he trailed the field throughout in a 2400m race at Sandown on Saturday won by Inkster.

Trainer Peter Healey has given the gelding a searching campaign of one flat barrier trial, three flat runs and three steeple schools to fit him for the 3900m feature.

"He looks amazing and has improved with each of his schools," Healey said.

The winner of the 2004 Hiskens Steeple Topzoff hasn't raced over obstacles since finishing runner-up to Sissano in the 2005 Hiskens.

He was found to have suffered a tendon injury and was retired.

However, he eventually found his way back to Healey's stables and was enjoying life as a lead pony until the trainer asked the owners whether he could put him back in work.

They agreed and Healey began working on bringing him back to fitness.

Topzoff has been placed at his past two 2800m schools at Cranbourne on May 25 and Pakenham on June 9.

Meanwhile Inkster, who is to be mated with five-time Group One winner Elvstroem this spring, is on target to contest the $150,000 Banjo Paterson Series Final (2500m) at Flemington on July 4 before going to stud.

"We've got until September," Price said.

Ridden by Craig Newitt, Inkster ($10) travelled comfortably mid-field and kicked back gamely when headed by Spare A Dime to score by a nose with Belle Famille 2-1/4 lengths away third.

Price said Inkster, who has only been battling this preparation, had been sharpened up with a visit to the bullring since.
