New Zealand apprentice Daniel Stackhouse will be hoping to wind up a stint in Victoria with a win aboard the Peter Moody-trained Star Scream at Flemington on Saturday.

Stackhouse was awarded a two-week stay with the leading Melbourne stable as part of a scholarship he won last season when he rode 38 winners and was declared the New Zealand southern region's champion apprentice.

Stackhouse began his stay with a win on the Moody-trained Ben Zena in a maiden at Traralgon last Sunday and rode stablemate Glaze who finished 10th at Caulfield on Wednesday.

He had four mounts, all for outside stables, at Moe on Friday.

Stackhouse's 1.5kg allowance brings topweight Star Scream in with 57.5kg in the Smithfield Hcp (1400m).

Stackhouse, who has ridden winners both on the flat and over jumps in New Zealand, is due to return home on Sunday.

Testa Rossa four-year-old Star Scream, who resumes from a spell on Saturday, is a 1500m winner at Moonee Valley and a 2000m winner at Caulfield when he defeated the smart Fieldmaster and Cabeza.

He was placed over 1400m at Sandown when first-up last preparation in March.

Darren Weir is looking for a good run from Corvidae at his first test beyond 1200m.

The Marmottan three-year-old had stints with trainers Kane Harris and Rick Worthington before owner Royce Ritchie sent him to Weir.

As a two-year-old the colt was a 1-1/4 length runner-up to Toorak Toff over 1200m at Sandown and finished second to Hinchinbrook in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Randwick before failing twice in Group races in Sydney.

Weir said he was pleased with Corvidae who has had four runs for him.

The colt broke through for his first win at his eighth start and third outing for Weir when he won a 1200m maiden at Moonee Valley on November 12 after which he ran on well to finish third to Rock Me Sweet over 1200m at Caulfield on December 4.

"I thought his run was quite good at Caulfield," Weir said.

Dean Yendall will ride Corvidae who faces a class rise from a Rating 0-72 to a 0-78 for three and four-year-olds.

Smithfield entries Happy Patrick, Mannopoly and Summarise are all engaged at Moonee Valley on Friday night while Bendigo trainer Sean Mott said he would scratch Verdasco from the race.
