Colin Little will investigate the possibility of giving classy filly Soft Sand a barrier trial in Brisbane before next month's Group One Tattersall's Tiara after a delayed start to her winter campaign.

The three-year-old was scheduled to race last week at Flemington but wasn't ready in time and goes into Saturday's back up race, the ALH Group Plate (1100m) at Caulfield, a short-priced favourite.

Little said that being a week behind was a concern as it impacted on Soft Sand's race program.

"I wish I could have got her to the races last week because it is not that long to the Tattersall's Tiara on June 23," Little said.

"I wanted to give her one run in Brisbane but the ideal lead up is next week's Dane Ripper for fillies and mares and I have run out of time getting her there as she needs time to recover from this Saturday."

He said Soft Sand was nominated for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 9 but he was against giving her such a tough assignment against older horses second-up.

"I don't really want her to run in the Stradbroke but I'd like to give her a go going the Brisbane way so I will probably have to investigate a trial," Little said.

Soft Sand has raced only six times and posted three wins and two placings before her last start luckless fifth to Empress Rock in the Group Two Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

"She got back, never got out, and went to the line hard held," Little said.

"We've got a very good opinion of her and we've had the Tattersall's Tiara in mind for a while."

After winning her debut at Bendigo last July and scoring a first-up win at Sandown in December, Soft Sand accommodated a steep class rise in the autumn by winning the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield and finishing second to Shopaholic in the Group Two Armanasco Stakes.

"She'll get back a bit over the 1100 on Saturday but she's got good acceleration and hopefully she can get home over the top of them," Little said.

"She's tough and strong and has a great attitude and has bounced back well from the autumn."

Soft Sand has firmed from $2.15 to $2.10 with TAB Sportsbet and dominates Saturday's fillies and mares race ahead of Rue Maple at $5.50.
