Peter Snowden is a master at targeting big races with the right horses and is confident he's got it right for the Brisbane winter carnival juvenile races.

The Snowden-trained Benfica booked early favouritism for the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes and Group One T J Smith at Eagle Farm next month following his explosive win in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben last week.

Stablemate Free Wheeling gets his chance to cement his claims for the two winter features when he makes his Queensland debut in the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Free Wheeling lines up against the Gerald Ryan-trained Hot Snitzel who scored a runaway win in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.

Snowden targeted the T J Smith with Benfica and Free Wheeling months ago and isn't concerned the latter is still a maiden.

"I really like him (Free Wheeling)," Snowden said.

"He's a nice horse but different to Benfica.

"One gets back and the other races on the speed."

Snowden wasn't disappointed when Free Wheeling was runner-up to Manawanui over 1250 metres at Canterbury on May 7.

"We wanted to ride him back in the small field and he relaxed really well," he said.

"It might have been a small field of four but there was some good horses against him.

"Both Benfica and Free Wheeling are two nice horses and both are going on to the Sires' and T J Smith."

Snowden has great respect for Hot Snitzel but hopes Free Wheeling can test him.

"Free Wheeling has got an awkward barrier and will need some luck from 12 but he'll be competitive," Snowden said.

Snowden trains for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation and has won every Group One juvenile race in the country this season and is hopeful either Free Wheeling or Benfica can make a clean sweep in the T J Smith on June 11.

Sepoy won the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper while Helmet claimed the AJC Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes.

Trainer Liam Birchley isn't overawed by the dominance of the southern two-year-olds and expects a strong showing from Show A Prince in the Champagne Classic.

"He's very strong at the finish and I'll be disappointed if he doesn't run a good race," Birchley said.

Show A Prince has won two of his three starts and looked most impressive in his fast-finishing win over 1200 metres at Doomben on April 16.
