Craig Newitt believes Sir Hallowell will win better races after the former West Australian sprinter landed his first victory for the Mick Price stable at Mornington.

Formerly with David Harrison, the More Than Ready entire won two races in Perth as a three-year-old and was sent to Sydney where he ran fourth to Monton in the Group Two Hobartville Stakes and 12th to Shoot Out in the Group One Randwick Guineas.

After placings on wet tracks at Ballarat and Seymour at his first two runs in from a spell, the five-year-old appreciated the firmer dead (5) surface on Wednesday and was sent out $2.60 favourite in the Betfair Hcp (1210m) at the transferred Sandown meeting.

After drifting back and racing three wide with cover from a wide gate, Sir Hallowell scored by a length from Dash For Viz with Kaleske a nose away third.

"He just ran into unsuitable wet tracks at his first two starts here but still ran very well," winning jockey Newitt said.

"When Dash For Viz took off at the 600 metres it forced me to get out and get going.

"He made a long sustained run and went to the line very strongly so I'm sure there is a nice win in him.

"He's got a bit of class about him."

Ricky Maund says he has another month training Show Stealer, Wednesday's winner of the Browns Sawdust and Shaving Hcp (1210m), before she goes to stud.

Maund said the seven-year-old was booked in to be mated with Exceed And Excel but would have one more run before being let down.

"She's done a good job, I just don't know whether she wants to stop racing," he said.

"It's been great for her especially to top it off with a Victorian city win. It's just an extra bonus."

The Toubougg seven-year-old, who had won once before at metropolitan level at Sandown in May last year, has raced 41 times for seven wins and 13 placings.

At her previous outing, she had taken her stake earnings beyond $100,000 with a win on the Geelong synthetic track last month.

Show Stealer ($15) gave Newitt a winning double in successive races when she held off Belahina ($41) to score by a length with Mousseline ($8.50) a short head away third.
